Hawaii Foodbank Senior Food Box Packing

“Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.” - Charles Schulz

Our members came out in force again, filled with the holiday spirit in support of our kupuna on Oahu and Kauai! We helped the Hawaii Foodbank pack over 2,100 “healthier choice” food boxes for our local seniors in need. We had a lot of fun and are grateful for the opportunity to give a little of ourselves to those who need it most.

Bowling for Tots!

On Friday, December 4th, we had our first in-person HJJCC Membership event of the fiscal year! Although we had to stay a little more "split" compared to our previous events, our members brought their holiday spirit with them to Aiea Bowl for our Bowling for Tots event!

We collected toy donations for Toys for Tots while members spent the night bowling in groups of five or less. Some teams left more pins standing than others, but we all had tons of fun!

Thank you for donating to our Toys for Tots drive!

Adopt-A-School Day at Honouliuli Middle School

We were excited to hold our Adopt-a-School Day project with the brand new Honouliuli Middle School as they prepare to welcome their first full class of 6th grade students! We helped by creating mask wearing and social distancing signs and placing those along with markers and arrows throughout their campus. We also festively decorated bulletin boards, assisted staff with power washing, and prepared 32 “survival kits” for Honouliuli MS teachers and staff!

Young Business Roundtable: Navigating Through Change with Jeff Berlin

Sometimes we need a reminder that the only constant in life is change, and that’s not a bad thing. Last week, we had the opportunity to listen in and engage with Organizational Development Consultant, Jeff Berlin, on how to navigate through change. Jeff shared a simple change model with members on how we could identify, analyze and plan for the expected and unexpected changes in our lives. Members stayed after to network, catch up, and pau hana with one another in smaller break-out rooms.

Mahalo to Jeff and everyone who was able to attend, we’re looking forward to our next YBR event and hope you’ll be able to join us!

Virtual Speed Networking

We had a great time meeting members of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce at our joint Virtual Speed Networking event on Wednesday, October 28, 2020! Members of both organizations were paired up in breakout rooms for four, 10-minute networking sessions. All participants were entered to win prizes, including gift cards from Rainbow Drive-In and a HJCC 120th Anniversary polo shirt. Congratulations to the winners!

Virtual Escape Room

We did it! Congrats to both teams who successfully snuck backstage to meet Bruce Springsteen in the “Sneaking Backstage” Virtual Escape Room event on Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Team CBF Troopers finished first in just over 40 minutes and Team Two wasn’t too far behind, finishing in 46 minutes. Everyone had a great time and even got into the Halloween spirit a little!

Virtual Discussion on Impacts of COVID-19 with Kobe JCs

CRYS LARON KRIS.PNG

Last month, our sister city chapter, Kobe invited us to participate in a virtual discussion regarding the impacts of COVID-19 and its current effects on our chapters. Kobe JC President Tomohiro Kawatani, Singapore JC President Ian Lew, Taiwan Kaohsiung JC President Anson Huang, and our HJJCC President Crystine Ito, shared their thoughts with 200 participants on this global issue, including how each chapter is adapting to this constant change and how they are overcoming challenges.

After the panel presentation, we were lucky to have the opportunity to split up virtually into small breakout rooms to have further discussion on COVID19 impacts with the other participating members.

Thank you to the Kobe JCs for allowing us to be part of this great event!

Hawaii Foodbank Senior Food Box Packing

Today, we volunteered with the Hawaii Foodbank 🥫. We packed over 2,000 "healthier choice" food boxes 📦 for seniors in need. Now more than ever, people facing food insecurity are counting on the Hawaii Foodbank, and even through these difficult times, they continue to provide food to those facing hunger in our community. We had so much fun and we were happy to have the opportunity to help!
